Placentia Library Literacy Services Placentia Library Literacy Services was developed in partnership with the California State Library Literacy Services over 21 years ago. The program offers free tutoring and confidential English instruction to adults and children. It is the only full service library literacy program in North Orange County. The following are services that are available through PLLS:
One-to-one tutoring for adults or children If you are interested in receiving tutoring services for yourself or a child, please contact the literacy office at (714) 524-8408 ext 213 or 215 or come in and fill out an application.
Homework help (during school year) Placentia Library Homework Club Homework assistance is available in the library on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4PM to 6PM; and on Thursdays from 4:00PM until 6:00PM. Students from kindergarten through high school are welcome to attend.
Topaz-Tuffree Homework Club Meets at Topaz Elementary School - 3232 Topaz Lane, Room 103 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:15pm to 5:45pm. Students from Tuffree 7th & 8th grades are welcome to attend.
Kraemer Homework Club Meets at Kraemer Middle School - 645 N. Angelina Dr. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Students who attend Kraemer Middle School are welcome
H.I.S.HOUSE Homework Club Meets at the Homeless Intervention Shelter (H.I.S.) House - 907 N. Bradford on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6:45pm to 8:15pm. Student-age residents of H.I.S. House are welcome to attend.
Families For Literacy (FFL) This program focuses on bringing families together for school success. Please visit the literacy office or call (714) 524-8408 ext.213 for details about FFL
Citizenship Tutoring We schedule practice interviews for people who have applied for United States citizenship. Please visit the literacy office or call (714) 524-8408 ext 215 for additional information.
English Language Literacy Intensive (during school year) The ELLI program is in local schools and assists students who need specialized help. Most ELLI tutors are students from local universities; others are adult community volunteers.
Become a Tutor PLLS always needs volunteer tutors. Tutor trainings are offered regularly, usually on the first Sunday of each month. If you want to learn more about becoming a volunteer tutor call Lois at (714) 524-8408 ext 219.
Internships and Service Learning PLLS is an approved site for students wishing to fulfill their community service and internship requirements. If you want to learn more about fulfilling your community service requirements call (714) 524-8408 ext 213, 214 or 215.
Federal Work Study Placements PLLS partners with Western State University College of Law and Cal State Fullerton in the Federal Work Study (FWS) program. Approved students may apply for FWS positions. Please contact the literacy office at (714) 524-8408 ext 213, 214 or 215 for details about the FWS program.
